Advanced Television: Italy: Streamers Must Invest More in Local Content

The Italian government has adopted amendments to the Audiovisual Media Services Law that prioritise investment in original Italian content, particularly for streaming services. Streaming players like Netflix and Prime Video must now invest 16% of their Italian revenue in European productions (down from 20%, but 70% must be Italian – up from 50%). This translates to 11.2% of their revenue specifically for independent Italian productions (up from 10%).

Broadcast Media Africa: France’s Biggest TV Network to Offer Streaming to Africa, Europe

France’s leading free-to-air TV network, TF1, plans to expand its free streaming platform, TF1+, to other parts of Europe and Africa, with the aim of increasing its online advertising revenue. TF1+ currently hosts 15,000 hours of shows and films and will begin its expansion into Belgium and Luxembourg from June.

Digital TV Europe: African OTT Market to Hit $2 Billion

The African OTT market is set to generate $2 billion within five years, according to a report from Digital TV Research. The report predicts OTT movie and TV episode revenues will reach $2 billion by 2027. This total is triple the 2021 figure of $623 million. OTT video in Africa is booming.
