Broadcast Media Africa: Nigeria Launches Creative Economy Development and IP Monetisation Pilot to Empower Creatives
In Nigeria, the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved the establishment of the Creative Economy Development Fund (CEDF) and the Intellectual Property (IP) Monetisation Pilot.
In a memo to the Council, the Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, highlighted the ministry’s collaboration with the Ministries of Justice, Finance, Industry, Trade, and Investment, alongside the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigerian Copyright Commission, to facilitate the successful launch of the Creative Economy Development Fund (CEDF) and the rollout of the Intellectual Property (IP) Monetisation Pilot.

TVTech: Streaming Hits Record Share of TV Viewing in November
Time spent watching TV in November reached a nine-month high as streaming grabbed a record share of TV viewing, accounting for 41.6% viewing, according to Nielsen’s The Gauge. Overall, viewing levels increased 5% from October to record the largest monthly viewing total since February, Nielsen said, with sports, the presidential election and livestreaming driving increases.

BroadbandTV News: South Africa Puts Back Analogue Switch-Off to March 2025
South Africa’s Department of Communications & Digital Technologies has secured cabinet support for a further extension of the country’s analogue switch-off from 31 December 2024 to 31 March 2025. The department says the extension will ensure that as many indigent households as possible will enjoy their right to access broadcast services.

Yahoo! Sports: Bundesliga Expands OTT Service to South Africa
The German Football League (DFL) has partnered with digital soccer platform OneFootball to launch its direct-to-consumer service, 'Bundesliga Pass,' in South Africa. Starting in January 2025, fans will be able to stream live games from Germany's top two soccer tiers on a pay-per-view or season pass basis.
